The sheet is two winters thick. March 1743 splits the Misérieux receipts — rye, barley, seed, oats — and leaves the grain with Bonnefoy. June 1745 still owes three livres ten sols for half a calf. On the other face the same sum is given to Porchand, and two meadows are named as if someone needed to remember them after the fold. What the paper holds is not a title deed. It is the moment a domaine stops being land and becomes a list.
